There was a young man who always complained about his bad luck. One day, an old man with the grey beard came over and asked: “Young man, why are you unhappy?”
“I don’t understand why I am always so poor.”
“Poor? You are rich!” the old man said sincerely.
“Why do you think that?” the young man asked.
The old man said: “If you cut off one of your fingers now I will give you $1,000, will you do it?”
“of course no !” the young man replied.
“If you cut off your hand I will give you $10,000, will you do it?”
“No way!”
“If you make you blind and I will give you $100,000, will you do it?”
“No!”
“If you immediately become an 80-year-old man and I will give you 1 million, will you do it?”
“No.”
“If you die immediately and I will give you 10 million, will you do it?”
“No way!”
“That’s right, you already have more than 10 million wealth, why do you still lament that you are poor?” the old man asked with a smile.
The young man was speechless, and suddenly understood something.
if you wake up in the morning and you can breathe freely, you will be more blessed than the person who passed away last night.
If you have never experienced the danger of war, the loneliness of being imprisoned, the pain of being tortured, and the suffering of starvation…you already belong to the lucky ones in this world.
If you can attend a religious gathering without fear of harassment, arrest, torture, or death….you are happier than lots of others in this world.
If you have food in your refrigerator, enough clothes on your body, and a shelter….you are richer than lots of others.
If you can look up, with a smile on your face, and a heart full of gratitude, you are truly happy-because most people in the world can do this, but they don’t. If you can hold someone’s hand, hug them , or just pat them on the shoulder… you are indeed blessed-because what you have done is equivalent to what God can do.
